Why Women Are Slower In Losing Weight Than Men


All you ladies out there, ever wondered why your partner, your male friend or a male family member loses weight faster than you do?

Well, due to many social and physical variables, women generally, tend to have a harder time in losing weight than most men. Here are some of the possible reasons why :

1. Effects of Birth Control

One of the most popular side effects of hormonal contraceptives (including pills, patches and injections) is the weight gain. Medication-related weight gain can both increase the total number of pounds that you want to remove, and would also be harder to remove. If you are starting to use a new birth control drug, consider adding extra exercise to lessened their effects.

2. Thyroid Problems

While men can certainly develop disease of the thyroid, which is much more common in women. Underactive thyroid, or hypothyroidism, can ruin your hormone levels and the metabolic rates, adding another obstacle to weight loss. If you are a woman who is having a hard time to lose weight and cannot understand why, or feel weak and sluggish in general, it is best to be checked by a doctor for hypothyroidism.

3. Your Own Metabolism

Female bodies operate with a slightly slower metabolic clock that men do, they can do to lose weight and keep it shutdown takes more time and effort. On average, higher content of body fat and lower muscle mass means that women’s bodies tend to use less energy than men in a day. One way of improving metabolic rates is to build more muscles.

4. Time

Unlike men, women usually spend their free time in devotion for their family, running errands or taking care of the children. Men have more time to exercise and planning their meals.

5.  Peer and Social Pressure

Women have a lot of social pressure to be slim but not muscular, in a layman’s term to be “sexy”. It means that it also come with guilt and fear that can hinder the weight loss success. Also, women are more interested in cardio-based exercises that can help with weight loss, but wont help improve your overall metabolic rate.

Wanting to have a healthier body does not have to be a contest. You just need to have focus on your goal and stay positive in whatever body type you have.
